  20.    1. The X-WinPro 5.1/Release:990518 Installation
  21.    ================================================
  22.  
  23. To install the package, run the "xwp32.exe" file.
  24.  
  25. 1.1 How to install and uninstall the XWPNFS32/Win95 NFS Client
  26. ---------------------------------------------------------------
  27. To install NFS Client:
  28.  
  29. 1) the XWPNFS32 Client may be installed only using the 
  30.    "Custom" installation type.
  31. 2) XWPNFS32 Client cannot be installed/used yet under Windows NT;
  32.  
  33.  
  34.    2. Major differences from the 5.0/Release:981208 version
  35.    ========================================================
  36.  
  37. 2.1. The following enhancements have been made:
  38.  
  39. 2.1.1. XServer:
  40. - the X11R6.4 release was implemented, only one new Extension
  41.   ("LBX") yet was implemented;
  42. - the new "Multiple+remoteWM" mode is implemented.
  43.   It is the old "Multiple" mode, but local Windows window manager
  44.   does not control windows of X-clients and user must run
  45.   any suitable remote window manager. This mode is very convenient 
  46.   when user uses CDE-like interface where remote window manager 
  47.   provides its own tool/task bar;
  48. - additional "7x13euro" and "7x13eurB" fonts were added in "MISC"
  49.   fontset to provide for displaying the new "Euro" currency sign showing;
  50. - the host chooser dialog was implemented for the XDMCP broadcast mode;
  51. - some X-clients (e.g. ICQ/JAVA with JDK 1.1) start input/output
  52.   from/to its windows only after receiving the "ReparentWindow" X-event
  53.   (which is the result of typical Unix window manager activity).
  54.   Earlier XServer did not make such an action in the "Multiple" mode,
  55.   so all windows of some X-clients were empty;
  56. - the "_MOTIF_WM_HINTS" window property is processed now.
  57.   Earlier some X-clients (e.g. ImageMagic/Linux) might work incorrectly,
  58.   have incorrect view and/or fully "hang-up" the X-session;
  59. - the wait timeout of "Middle Button Emulation" mode is tunable now;
  60. - since some Windows 95 TCP/IP stacks (e.g. "Microsoft wsock32.dll,
  61.   ver2.2, 32bit of Jun 6 1997, at 14:08:43") provide wrong processing
  62.   of the standard "select()" non-wait request, so using of mentioned
  63.   "select()" WinSock API request was removed;
  64. - the immediate "link" between Windows clipboard and current XSelection
  65.   was implemented;
  66. - the recommended "Alt_R+E" combination was inserted into the main part of
  67.   kmf-files to provide for the possibility to input the Euro currency sign;
  68. - XServer provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  69.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  70. - XServer can now work in new MSB(MostSignificant Byte/Bit)-first mode.
  71.   This MSB mode is actual for X-clients which incorrectly use
  72.   XPutImage/XGetImage X-operations (e.g. the viewer of CDE/SunSolaris
  73.   startup picture).
  74.  
  75. 2.1.2. XStartup:
  76. - some improvements were made.
  77.  
  78. 2.1.3. NFS-Server:
  79. - corresponding hostnames are shown additionally to  
  80.   IP addresses of actual NFS-Clients;
  81. - NFS-Server provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  82.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  83.  
  84. 2.1.4. Telnet:
  85. - some improvements were made (including some changes in the 
  86.   "terminfo.ini" file).
  87.  
  88. 2.1.5. Ftp:
  89. - the "VMS" remote host type is processed correctly, the 
  90.   "Show hidden files" setting controls showing VMS file versions.
  91.  
  92. 2.1.6. NFS-Client:
  93. - NFS-Client is installed by using the same Installation procedure 
  94.   without necessity to use "xwpnfs32.inf" file and "Control Panel";
  95. - corresponding hostnames are shown additionally
  96.   to IP addresses of NFS-Servers. This feature is controlled 
  97.   by corresponding On/Off setting to prevent timeouts 
  98.   because of possible DNS accessibility problems;
  99. - NFS-Clients might work incorrectly with non-mapped disks 
  100.   under Windows95/OSR2;
  101. - the "NFS-Servers list" was implemented additionally to the broadcast 
  102.   method of locating remote NFS-Servers. This list is the only 
  103.   way to connect NFS-Server which is out of the LAN (i.e. "old-style" 
  104.   broadcast method could not provide the visibility of such servers);
  105.  
  106. 2.1.7. Lpd:
  107. - Lpd now can process print jobs with primaryly undefined data length
  108.   (the length field is 0 in description of the input data file);
  109. - Lpd provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  110.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  111.  
  112. 2.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  113.  
  114. 2.2.1. XServer:
  115. - XServer in Multiple mode worked incorrectly with CDE/Solaris-7;
  116. - the message "Cannot create XWPserver class" might occur in 
  117.   XServer's start moment;
  118. - XServer in Multiple mode showed incorrectly color icons of X-clients;
  119.  
  120. 2.2.2. XStartup:
  121. - a password with the 'P'("capital P") letter at the first and last 
  122.   places was saved wrongly;
  123.  
  124. 2.2.3. NFS-Server:
  125. - NFS-Server provided 100% CPU usage;
  126. - NFS-Server crashed after receiving of the "CALLIT" request.
  127.   This request is the result of Unix "rup","rwho" or "rusers" commands;
  128. - the memory leaking (after each "ls -R" Unix command) was fixed;
  129.  
  130. 2.2.4. Telnet:
  131. - some bugs were fixed (including wrong cursor positioning in some cases);
  132.

  135.    3. Major differences 5.0/Release:981208 from 4.3/Release:980730 version
  136.    =======================================================================
  137.  
  138. 3.1. The following enhancements have been made :
  139.  
  140.   3.1.1. The NFS-Client/Win95 was implemented.
  141.  
  142.   3.1.2. XServer :
  143.      - the max.integral length of the "FontPath" items was enlarged
  144.        from 250 to 2040 symbols;
  145.      - the "HP-Roman8" fontset was added in the package;
  146.      - the "TrueColor" (16 and/or 24 bits per pixel) Visual
  147.        was implemented;
  148.      - the last chosen XSelection name is preserved as the current
  149.        one for using in next X-sessions;
  150.      - the renovated "olcursor" font was changed in "MISC" fontset to prevent
  151.        the "imagetool" crash because of absence a few cursor fonts;
  152.      - the renovated "CDE" and new "OPWN" fontsets were added to supply
  153.        some CDE programs and JAVA applets with necessary correct fonts;
  154.  
  155.   3.1.3. XStartup :
  156.      - the absolutely new outlook was implemented.
  157.  
  158.   3.1.4. NFS-Server :
  159.      - the 32K maximum data size (for NFS-3 protocol) was implemented;
  160.      - the correct refreshing of files/directories cache was implemented;
  161.  
  162.   3.1.5. Ftp :
  163.      - the "VM/CMS" remote host type was added;
  164.  
  165.   3.1.6. Comsetup :
  166.      - the "TCP/IP Info" feature was added to test the accessibility
  167.        and to obtain a description of the used TCP/IP stack;
  168.      - the "Use First IP address" and "Use Last IP address" settings
  169.        were added to automatically choose the local IP address
  170.        if your PC has a few IP addresses (i.e. "multi-home" PC);
  171.  
  172.   3.1.7. Telnet :
  173.      - the Telnet buffer was significantly enlarged to provide
  174.        for correct "Paste" actions.
  175.  
  176.  
  177. 3.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  178.  
  179.   3.2.1. XServer:
  180.      - the "Infinite Loop" message might occur in "Multiple"
  181.        window mode (e.g. using the "dtmail" program);
  182.      - the "AltGR+key" Composers were processed incorrectly;
  183.      - the "Copy XSelection" was blocked after XServer reset;
  184.      - the "KEY40" was corrected in the "danish.kmf" and "norvegia.kmf"
  185.        keyboard mapping files;
  186.      - the resizing/dragging in "Multiple" window mode of X-client's
  187.        windows was invisible up to release the mouse button
  188.        (if MS Windows video driver was in "Show window contents while dragging"
  189.        mode );
  190.      - the "... error refcount..." message might occur after
  191.        XServer+CDE reset;
  192.      - the XServer might crash during the choosing of the "Fonts..."
  193.        facility if a FontServer was in XServer FontPath;
  194.      - some CDE X-Clients wrongly viewed PseudoFonts because of
  195.        partially incorrect description of producing characters.
  196.  
  197.   3.2.2. NFS-Server:
  198.      - some problem with files permissions were resolved.
  199.  
  200.   3.2.3. Telnet:
  201.      - the incorrect "Copy" from the bottom line of Telnet window
  202.        was fixed.
  203.  
  204.   3.2.4. Ftp:
  205.      - a few bugs (including the incorrect show of more than 2000 year)
  206.        were fixed.
  207.  
  208.  
  209.       4. Undocumented Features
  210.     -------------------------
  211.  
  212.   4.1. XServer and XSettings:
  213.      - the "Silent Bell" setting was implemented to block all sounds
  214.       (internal sounds and X-protocol XBell requests);
  215.      - the "Block KeySyms Changing" and "Block Modifiers Changing" settings
  216.        were implemented to block the external change of XServer keyboard
  217.        mapping (e.g. via "xmodmap..." utility);
  218.      - the new "Multiple+remoteWM" item was added to "Window Mode List"
  219.        of "Startup" XSettings box;
  220.      - the XSettings dialog contains the "X depth (bits per pixel)" box,
  221.        that allows to choose XServer visual mode: 8,16,24 bits per pixel.
  222.        The "Auto" setting provides using of the current Windows video setting.
  223.      - the recommended "Alt_R+E" combination was inserted in the following
  224.        kmf-files to provide the possibility to input the Euro currency sign:
  225.        "us15.kmf","danish.kmf","belgian.kmf","decemfrc.kmf","decemfr.kmf",
  226.        "decemgr.kmf","decemuk.kmf","dutch.kmf","frencan.kmf","french.kmf",
  227.        "german.kmf","italian.kmf","latinam.kmf","norwegia.kmf","portugue.kmf",
  228.        "spanish.kmf","swedfinn.kmf","swedish.kmf","swissfre.kmf",
  229.        "swissger.kmf","uk102.kmf" and "uk102m.kmf".<O:P</O:P
  230.        The "us.kmf" file was copied as the "us15.kmf" file, in which
  231.        the "Alt_R" key description was changed from "XK_Alt_R" to
  232.        "XK_Mode_switch".
  233.        
  234.      The "msus.kmf","uk101.kmf","decemus.kmf","userkbd.kmf","us.kmf",
  235.        "dvorak.kmf" and "jpn106.kmf" files were not changed and do not
  236.        provide the "Alt_R+E" input;
  237.  
  238.  
  239.   4.2. XServer:
  240.      - the "iniRunTelnet=1","iniRunXSettings=1","iniRunFtp=1",
  241.        "iniRunLpr=1","iniRunXStartup=1" and/or "iniRunPing=1" items
  242.        may be added to "[XSETUP]" section of ini-file to automatically
  243.        start the corresponding program(s) when the XServer starts;
  244.      - the "XTcpPort=" item may be inserted in "[XSETUP]" section
  245.        to change the default (6000) XServer port number;
  246.      - the "QuickTermination=1" item may be inserted in "[XSETUP]" section
  247.        to prevent the confirmation message on closing of X-session;
  248.      - the "BroadcastConnectFirstAnswer=1" item may be inserted in "[XSETUP]"
  249.        section to provide "old-style" using of XDMCP broadcast mode;
  250.      - the "MiddleButtonTimeout=..." item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  251.        section to set (in msec) the value of "MiddleButton" wait timeout;
  252.      - the "UseUsualSelect=1" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  253.        section to provide "old-style" using of the "select()" WinSock API request;
  254.      - the "ConnectXWClipboards=0" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  255.        section to provide "old-style" way of using the Windows clipboard
  256.        and current XSelection (i.e. no immediate link between Windows
  257.        clipboard and current XSelection);
  258.      - the "Options"->"Move window to (0,0)" menu item was implemented 
  259.        in XServer/Multiple Control menu to supply users with possibility
  260.        to move any window to left-top part of the Windows screen. This feature 
  261.        is useful to see an invisible window (which is out of visible screen);
  262.      - the "MultiRWMbgroundWin=1" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  263.        section to allow remote window manager background displaying
  264.        if window manager provides it (e.g. "olwm" - does not provide,
  265.        but "dtwm" - provides). Such a background window is suppressed
  266.        by default because it covers all non-X windows. This setting has
  267.        meaning in the XServer's "Multiple+remoteWM" mode;
  268.      - the "Restore"/"Minimize" menu items of XServer in "Multiple+remoteWM" 
  269.        mode provides the "visibility" of XServer's background into additional
  270.        non-large window. This "background" may be used to provide control
  271.        functionality of windows manager used (usually it is pressing on
  272.        mouse-buttons).
  273.      - the "XServerIsMSB=1" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  274.        section to set XServer's imageByte- and bitmapBit- orders in
  275.        MSB(MostSignificant Byte/Bit)-first mode for X-clients from
  276.        MSB-machines (such as Sun-stations). X-clients from
  277.        LSB(LeastSignificant Byte/Bit)-first machines (such as Intel-platphorm
  278.        PCs) will still work in LSB mode. The "XServerIsMSB=2" setting
  279.        sets the mode when all X-clients must work with XServer in MSB mode.
  280.  
  281.   4.3. Telnet:
  282.      - the telnet.exe may be run with the "hostname" parameter
  283.      to avoid the necessity to enter the hostname interactively;
  284.  
  285.   4.4. XWPNFS32 Client:
  286.      - may be installed manually after X-WinPro installation
  287.        from "XWPNFS32.W95" subdirectory of installed X-WinPro directory
  288.        (see "XWPNFS32.W95\readme" text file for more information);
  289.      - the "NFS-Servers list" was implemented additionally to the broadcast
  290.        method of locating remote NFS-Servers. This list may be edited
  291.        from the "Property" of the "XWPNFS32..." Windows Network client.
  292.  
  293.  
  294.         5. Known problems
  295.         ------------------
  296.  
  297.   5.1. XServer:
  298.      - drawing of partial arcs may be very slow ;
  299.      - the CDE/XDMCP of the HP-UX host may provide the infinite
  300.        waiting for connection. To avoid this, the new "HP" fonts
  301.        alias directory would be included into the XServer FontPath;
  302.      - the "Forced Backing Store" setting may provide the wrong
  303.        screen re-displaying in some cases (e.g. Netscape scrolling).
  304.      - since the XServer uses the "MSB-first" byte- and bit- orders,
  305.        so the viewing of the incorrectly sent "LSB-first" bitmaps
  306.        and pixmaps may produce wrong images (especially with
  307.        "TrueColor" visuals) .
  308.  
  309.   5.2. Lpd:
  310.      - printers on the remote Windows NT 4 hosts
  311.        are unavailable from the local host with Windows NT 4 .
  312.  
  313.   5.3. NFS-Server:
  314.      - may have problems on a PC with a few IP addresses.
  315.  
  316.   5.4. NFS-Client/Win95:
  317.      - cannot be used yet on PC with a few IP addresses;
  318.      - the PC must be restarted after you change the license
  319.        "xwpdllid.dll" file.
  320.  
  321.   5.5. Uninstallation:
  322.      - uninstallation procedure does not remove components
  323.        which were installed in additional (non-first) installation 
  324.        sessions. Such additional components must be removed manually.

  371. There are a number of ways to order X-WinPro from us. Whatever
  372. method you choose, your order must be accompanied by an Order
  373. Form. When we receive your payment, we will email you license 
  374. files with the installation instructions. 
  375.  
  376. CREDIT CARD
  377. We accept VISA, MasterCard, EuroCard and OKCard. For credit 
  378. card orders we recommend using our secure web order form 
  379. located at http://www.labf.com or alternatively sending the 
  380. details by fax to +358 3 316 5986.

  382. If you are using e-mail or a fax modem, a signature is not
  383. required on the Order Form.

  385. CHECK
  386. You can post us a check drawn on any bank in the world, in that
  387. country's currency. The amount should be equivalent to the
  388. price in US$. The check should be made out to Labtam Finland Ltd.
